An Atlanta and East Cobb native, Dr. Whitley believes in a family-centered approach to pediatric ear, nose, and throat care. A father of three boys himself, he treats his patients the way he would want his own children cared for. He views the parent-child-physician relationship as one based on trust with the parents as the ultimate decision-makers for the care of their child. Dr. Whitley believes in a very conservative approach to pediatric care, allowing the child’s body to heal naturally whenever possible and using medications and surgery as a last resort. When surgery is called for he believes in utilizing proven technological advancements and minimally invasive techniques to minimize recovery time and facilitate healing.
Education
A native of Atlanta and the East Cobb / Roswell area, Dr. Whitley went to the University of Georgia, graduating magna cum laude with honors in Microbiology. He then attended Yale University School of Medicine, where he was one of 42 in the nation to receive the prestigious Howard Hughes Research Fellowship.
He spent five years studying pediatric and adult otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was Chief Resident. He completed his complex pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia / University of Pennsylvania, the #1 rated children’s hospital in the world. He has continued his training through endoscopic ear surgery and minimally invasive ear surgery training at Harvard University. He considers medicine a lifetime commitment to learning and continuously travels to meetings and courses to stay on the leading edge.
CUTTING EDGE
Dr. Whitley is dedicated to providing his patients with access to cutting-edge medical innovation and is continually furthering his training. He is one of the most experienced endoscopic ear surgeons in the Atlanta area and he performed the first exoscopic pediatric cochlear implant in Atlanta.
While at Harvard University, he learned advanced minimally-invasive endoscopic ear procedures such as endoscopic tympanoplasty, which often allows him to repair holes in the ear drum without any external incisions or scars. The majority of his ear practice now focuses on minimally invasive approaches to cholesteatoma and repairing tympanic membrane perforations. These innovations result in less pain, faster healing, and almost always: no scar!
